the untethered inaugural launch party

We did it! After a year of ideas, endless optimism and passionate labour, we are pleased to announce the launch party for the inaugural issue of untethered, a visual and literary arts magazine celebrating the curious, the quirky and the quixotic.

When:
Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 at 7pm

Where:
Monarch Tavern, in their upstairs space (12 Clinton Street, near College and Bathurst)

What to expect:

Reader bios:

George Elliott Clarke is the 4th Poet Laureate of Toronto
(2012-15). His newest book is Traverse (Exile, 2014), an
autobiographical poem. He has received many awards,
but his greatest reward is to be read. The poems in
untethered are from an epic-in-progress, “The Canticles.”
Book 1 will appear in Fall 2015 from Guernica.

Award-winning scholar, playwright, and poet, Diana Manole has published academic articles, poems, short stories, plays, and eight books, including Angel with a Canadian Visa (Brumar, 2011); Oh, That’s Too Much! (Museum of Romanian Literature, 2000); Evening Habits (Eminescu, 1998); and Men and Women: 29 in Alphabetical Order (Phoenix, 1994). Her poems have appeared in English in anthologies, as well as in the Nashwaak Review and Maple Tree Literary Supplement (Canada), Poem (U.K.), Third Wednesday and Lunch Ticket (US, forthcoming).

Ailsa Bristow was born and raised in London, UK, has previously lived in the US, and has called Toronto home since 2012. She holds an MA in English Literature from University College London. She has previously written for still and still moving and The F Word (UK).

Sara Flemington completed her Honours BA in English and Creative Writing at York University. Her work has appeared in Sassafras Literary Magazine, Paper Darts, and the Quilliad, and is forthcoming in Echolocation. Her first chapbook of poems, humidity, was released with Bitterzoet Magazine in January, 2014. Sara lives in Toronto.

Jack Hostrawser received the York University President’s Prize in short fiction and is published in Existere, Steel Bananas and the Quilliad. He sometimes chases tornadoes and is being taught patience by an old motorcycle. He’s currently Production Editor at Descant and is writing his first novel. Ekraz Singh is a writer and editor living outside of Toronto. She is currently working on her first manuscript and has served as Production Editor at Descant as well as Executive Editor of Existere.

Justin Lauzon is a freelance writer, reviewer, and blogger from Toronto.He is a frequent contributor to Descant‘s blog and has been published in Excalibur. He studied fiction at York University and the Humber School for Writers, and is currently working on his first novel.
